Post Production Intensive - Review

We have come to the end of our post intensive, all still in one piece. The result from our work in this intensive was one that was of positive nature, in my mind at least. The mix was good at the end, and I feel that the teamwork we put into the project was of a fairly high standard.

Our group did a great job of adding a bit more life to the HSP documentary, this was done through the addition of new Foley and atmos effects which drew the audiences focus towards the meat in picture and gave a new meaning to the film.

Another aspect of our mix which gave new life to the film was the addition of new musical material, this was something that I was proud of at the end when I put it into perspective that I had never done a score for a documentary before and I also never worked with the middle eastern theme in musical terms, so in my mind it was a success. Of course, there were parts which could be improved. After hearing the feedback given from Chris at the presentation, I do agree that I could’ve made the music more exciting towards the end of the film much like the erratic nature of the start of the film.

There were some minor problems with the mix in my opinion mainly with the Foley, we struggled to find a way to bring the Foley sounds out without making them too obvious, in retrospect it may have been a good idea to spend some more time adding reverbs and eqing the effects so that we could have them louder in the mix but so that they didn’t stick out too much.
