Crossfire x 15 Step - Demo Project Reflection

As our first intensive has come to an end in AUS220, we take time to reflect on the work we created in the studio. The studio would probably be my favourite area of study within the the Audio Engineering field, hence my impressions of it are all positive. Just being there to set microphones up and work with a Neve console is all apart of the thrill of being in this area of work.

After completing the project we were given, I now understand how difficult it is to write, produce, record and mix a song in 4 weeks, and I have great amounts of respect for people who are talented enough to have something like this come out and sound great.

It's fair to say that our group experienced some difficulties throughout the duration of the project. The main one being our communication, being from all different backgrounds of music it makes it difficult to have one streamlined idea of how the song should sound. This resulted in many ideas being developed at once and then everyone being upset at their work not being considered. I think a better way to do this in the future would be to have 1 or 2 people dedicated to writing the song and everyone feeds them ideas.

As an individual I feel at the start I was extremely productive but as soon as the wheels started to fall off the train I kind of lost motivation to keep going and decided to focus on other projects more, which is definitely the wrong way to have gone about it. In the end, I did get back into the swing of things, which was good but there were about 4-5 days where I didn't do much for the project at all.

I was sick on the day of mixing so I was more of a nuisance to the group and not much help at all, and ended up having to leave halfway through.

Compared to our references I think the song has some elements which are a good combination of both. But overall I think our finished product lacks a bit of modern polish and shine to compete with productions being released these days, but never the less it was yet another big learning curve for myself.
