Over the past couple of weeks, I have been exposed to a number of different artists whom I have never heard of before. Throbbing Gristle, Nitzer Ebb, Cabaret Voltaire and Monte Cazazzo are all artists that I have studied and found new influence in. The industrial genre of electronic music with its intense synth sounds, droning background noise and sucker punching drums sounds has found its way into my own style of music and I look forward to exploring this genre and many others in my own spare time.
The song I am remixing for this project is one that Jan Wong recorded, the song was written by her friend Caleb Schneider and is titled ‘Seagulls’, the song includes acoustic guitar, keys and various percussion as the song climaxes towards the end.
The style I intend to remix this song into is obviously industrial, with artists such as Nine Inch Nails and those mentioned above coming to mind when sourcing for inspiration on this project. I intend on establishing a bass line that can be consistent throughout the whole remix as this repetitive droning characteristic is something that I have learnt is popular to use in industrial music. I also intend to filter the vocals and put some stereo effects on them to imitate a whispering to add an eerie feel to the remix. I would also like to find different samples online to make a drum rack out of, the sounds I have in mind are glitchy and a bass drum that can kick you in the face.
I will primarily be in contact with Jan in regards to creative direction and critical feedback on how I am progressing throughout the project.
By the end of the project, I hope to have a song that resembles some of the pieces I have attached below.

Looking forward to hearing this. It's a little hard to determine how the song will work in an industrial genre without hearing it though. Do as much work as you can this week to get a draft version ready by Friday.
